Songs I've Made Home

Just as any other person living a quickly-paced life, I find days at home, or out alone, to be invaluable. As such, I tend to get wholly immersed in my apartment/local park/neighborhood cafes.

One of the main qualities of a physically and mentally pleasing environment—at least to me—is the soundscape. I’m not speaking of ASMR, which is what many use to center themselves (and I’m not trying to invalidate that! Trust me). But, sounds make the moment. It makes sense, scientists have looked into why we link our favorite songs to our favorite memories. And in my brain, I have many sweet, sweet recipes of sounds and songs, that when combined, make a meal for instant euphoria.

There are certain songs, keen to my tastes, that mesh nicely with the white noise of a forced-air furnace, birds singing on the branches kissing my window, or the rush of cars on the nearby street. These songs make my apartment a home—a lived in space that holds elements of my existence. I could wear my clothes, eat my food, and generally veg out in silence, but, obviously, something is missing.

So, in being mindful, I’ve noted the songs I tend to play that silence the outside city and make my space a hidden sanctuary. Take a look!:
